imagine
Preface: Unfortunately the only verbiage that exists for the things I am going to discuss sound painfully cheesy. Feel free to invent new words that sound less “cheese ball cheese”. It would be much appreciated. The past few days I keep thinking about imagination. In my head I keep referencing something I think I’ve heard from a pastor at a church or from a book, but it could...

sleep
The other day a high school student asked me, “Why are you doing this? Is it so that you can sleep better at night?”  My first reaction was one of offense. I thought, “Being a nomad and working for LiNK doesn’t make me sleep any better! I’m heart broken over the lives of North Koreans and I lie awake being disturbed by the very thought of the injustice being...

creation, salvation, creation, salvation...
Two days ago, Sean, Sharon, and I drove from Boise, Idaho to Missoula, Montana. It was hard to leave Boise and even harder to be greeted by Denny’s for dinner at 9 and a Holiday Inn parking lot as our shelter for the night, but we’re making the best of it and we leave Montana tomorrow! Regardless of our feelings and reception in Missoula, I’m grateful for the...

idaho, who knew?
Currently I am writing from a couch in Twin Falls, Idaho in a house owned by Effect Radio. I think.  The last 24 hours have been so lovely, I just have to tell you about it. There’s a bit too much to be grateful and joyful over so I’ll list them and hopefully that will somehow make me more concise. 1. Yesterday started with reading Matthew and had some confusion about zombies after...

the past two days
I’ve been to 5 states (California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho). Eaten dinner of baked beans from a can. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as glamorous as “A Goofy Movie” makes it out to be. Went to Vegas and ate a panini, saw Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints (compound folk) at a Wal-Mart, took a picture of a couple of gay biker men in front of the Arizona sign (they work in...

good work
I’ve noticed a common phrase among some people at non-profit organizations I respect.  “We are working to work ourselves out of a job.” I think is the kind of work I want to do. The kind of job where I will work myself out of its necessity, because if that is true, then I am in the reconciliation business.

presbyterians, hookah bars, and a woman named esme
Today, as I do, I attempted to book screenings for LiNK. I’m at the point where I just have to make cold calls, calling churches, community centers, high schools, colleges, who and whatever. Because of this, I end up talking to a lot of disinterested people, sometimes though, you find that little gem. Today I had several. The gems are as follows: 1. All the Presbyterian churches of...

things i enjoyed this day
1. attempting to book screenings. cold calls build perseverance, refine why you do what you do and make you trust in the Holy Spirit. 2. seeing my mom. 3. tempranillo. 4. good advice over the phone from a former nomad. 5. nearly doing a pull-up… nearly.

n00b but learning
This past week I moved into the LiNK intern house, and my first week of training! I live in a house with about 20 people, 3 bathrooms, and an incredible amount of compassion, “y’alls”, and good conversation.  Our training so far has consisted of hours of education from LiNK president Hannah Song and Movement Director Justin Wheeler on what the North Korean people face. Hannah...

here it is.
The ubiquitous post-college blog. Clichè it will be, but I’m ok with that, and maybe you will be too.  I am starting this for one main reason. Next month I’ll be starting an internship with LiNK (Liberty in North Korea), a non-profit organization that advocates for and works with North Korean refugees hiding in China, creatively telling their stories and raising funds help them get...
