here it is.
The ubiquitous post-college blog. Clichè it will be, but I’m ok with that, and maybe you will be too.
I am starting this for one main reason. Next month I’ll be starting an internship with LiNK (Liberty in North Korea), a non-profit organization that advocates for and works with North Korean refugees hiding in China, creatively telling their stories and raising funds help them get to a safe country. This internship will take me to places unknown, geographically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. I think this internet hobbit hole could be a great place to let you all (to be precise, my mom and future employers) know how I am doing. If you are one of those who decide to give money so I can eat on this grand adventure, this will be the place to see how your generosity is helping bring North Koreans to freedom as I travel somewhere in the US telling their stories.
Let me tell you why I want to spend four months of my life sleeping on couches, making no money, and living out of a van with two complete strangers.
I recently graduated (mostly) from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in social sciences. I first heard about LiNK two years ago when I was working at a camp called Calvin Crest near Yosemite. A traveling team from LiNK called Nomads came and showed a film called “Seoul Train” (you can watch this on Netflix instant watch if you have an account, or if you’re like me, have the password for your step-dad’s). “Seoul Train” rocked my world. I had been studying the book of Exodus in the Bible all summer, and the parallels were uncanny. Oppression and tyranny, yet hope despite the hopelessness. God’s heart for journeys to a better land, and to save was made clear to me. My passion to aid North Koreans was stirred.
I want to intern for LiNK because they tell the stories of the oppressed, and give a voice to the voiceless. North Korea has been called the largest prison camp in the world and there is LiNK, proclaiming freedom to the captives.
My internship starts August 17th and I need to raise $1000 for the four months I will be interning. This money goes directly to me for food and daily expenses; LiNK pays for housing, gas, and everything else. If you would like to support me, make checks payable to LiNK with “Colby Carter” in the memo. Send any checks to:
